I’m hugely excited to announce that my next novel, Against the Tide, will feature my all-time favorite character. Bane Alexander first appeared in the Lady of Bolton Hill as a whiplash smart and lethally dangerous 17-year old troublemaker. He is now all grown up, has straightened himself out, and is ready to set the world on fire.
If you haven’t read The Lady of Bolton Hill, no worries. Against the Tide is an entirely stand-alone novel set in Boston of 1891. The heroine is Lydia Pallas, a translator for the U.S. Navy whose skills Bane desperately needs to unravel a smuggling ring.
It took me a while to dream up a heroine who was a match for Bane. Bane is such an overwhelming force who was a scene-stealer in The Lady of Bolton Hill, so I needed a woman who could match him in terms of wit, intelligence, and bravado. She also needed to have a deep gash of vulnerability that would slice through Bane’s tough, cynical hide and make him go weak in the knees. I think that Against the Tide is the most romantic of any book I’ve written. Look for it to hit the shelves in October of 2012. Keep your eyes peeled!

Looking forward to read this story, Elizabeth! Bane had already stolen my heart in The Lady of Bolton Hill.
Elizabeth! This is exciting news, indeed 🙂 I think everyone needs to read TLoBH though. They’ll get the full impression of Bane and what a miraculous conversion he had! I cannot wait!!!
I’m so excited! I’m so excited! I’m so excited! (Can you see me jumping up and down?) I can’t wait to spread the news on this one! Congrats, Elizabeth!
Bane! Yes! Will we get more of his backstory as well?
Thank you for sharing this, Elizabeth! I can’t wait!!
Awesome! I know what I’m reading first thing in October! 🙂

Thanks for all your kind comments! And SALLY….. you’ll learn a little more about Bane’s history for sure. I’ve written A TON about it… but I know some of it will end up on the cutting room floor. One of these days I’m thinking of building a section of the website where I can include deleted scenes from books. It hurts to cut scenes, but sometimes they drag down the momentum of the book and the wisest course is to trim them (besides….I have a BAAAAD habit of over-shooting my word count. My kind editor had always been very patient with me, but I need to start playing by the rules one of these days.)
How exciting! Bane is one of my all time favorite characters ever. Can’t wait to see him back in action.
I’m so excited because I loved Bane in The Lady of Bolton Hill! He was such an interesting character, so I can’t wait to see what he’s up to now and also learn more about his past.
Thanks for sharing this exciting news!!
I am so excited to hear that Bane will have his story. I can’t wait!
That’s wonderful! I just finished Lady of Bolton Hill. I remember your main female character saying, “I wish I could see Bane again.” Wouldn’t that be something to think about making happen too? But at least we, as readers, will see him again. 🙂
A friend of mine handed me a copy of “The Lady of Bolton Hill” today, and I flew through it in a manner of a few hours. I love Christian historical fiction and great, realistic characters, and your story had both! Bane is now officially one of my favorite book characters, and as soon as I finished the book, I immediately looked up your website to see if there was a continuation to Bane’s story. I’m sooo glad there is!! I can’t wait to read it in October! 🙂
